Election Season!

The election season creates a festering of political garbage, from spam mail delivered to you every day to watching a Kamala Harris ad with Donald Trumps face in black in white. Personally, I think if you want to make him look bad you just crank the hue up more so his head looks a radish. Both sides stick to the same exact script every time they are in an interview, and it is funny watching the debate where Kamala tries to shift everything about abortion and Donald shifts everything towards his wall. I was thinking about doing a drinking game about that, but I would be dead.

I don’t want to blabber on here about the election, I would more like to speak towards the spending. Attention costs money. All the TV ads, all the paper junk, the online pages, these websites (except theirs actually get traffic, unless your platform is Truth Social), cost a lot of money. How much?

8.61 billion is spent on garbage. That's almost 50% of NASA's yearly budget, 10% of our federal infrastructure budget, about 80% of Donald Trumps wall2, .25% of our total energy consumption in clean energy (Nuclear). And all of this money was raised before Joe dropped out of the race. How many ads have you seem of Kamala? Super PACs must have really helped out, because I have seen plenty of ads for her. Donald Trump is already rich from his companies, so he spends all of his money on ads, right?

No.

These Super PACs spend the money, with candidates chipping in. My solution?

Americas sport, football. Any given NFL team has a salary cap, at just above $200 million. We should do the same. You cannot raise or donate to a politician once they hit their cap. Every politician gets the same exact cap dependent on what you are running for. If you are running for president, you are capped at 50 million dollars. I am sure 8.6 Billion is not how much we waste our money on the election, there is so much money lost to merchandise.

Unspent money can go many places. It could go to other campaigns, recounts, future campaigns, or charitable organizations that doesn't circle back to yourself or family.
Somehow I know that it's not going to any worthwhile cause.

Naturally, people will be told to complain on both sides about how this is a violation of free speech. No. You can speak however you want, there would just be limits to how much you can spend on TV space, and how many trees you can put in my mailbox. Another good thing is this would help independents gain some traction, which balance the scales towards a less politically harsh future. On top of this, most of the ads fear-monger audiences, leading to worsened political climates.

I don't want to be political on here, I am here for things I find interesting, and while politics is boring to me, I found this interesting. With that being said, I would put my money on Kamala to win, as many others have. As to who I want to win, will be decided when I sit down for Saturday night football, when I see that red "X" over a grayscale Donald I will be fully convinced.

  1. 8.6 Billion as of May 9th. Much more has been raised. Last cycle 20 Billion was spent ↩︎
  2. Take that however you want, I am not going to waste headspace on that thought. ↩︎
