The Movie Rating Pit

When a rotten tomato is mixed with hot popcorn, you are filled with a CGI filled treat, with the possibility of seeing Tom Holland or The Rock.

Recently Red One released in theaters. After seeing the trailer on TV, I wondered who would actually see something like that. I was judging. Turns out, Based on what Rotten Tomatoes says, its rated a 90%! But that’s the audience score, the critics gave it a 30%.

I believe the large difference in the ratings is because its cast, the CGI budget, and the marketing budget. People love to see CGI. People love The Rock. People like being paid to review a movie.

My guess is they directors paid a bunch of millennials that love The Rock to watch it and review it. I did not watch the movie, I will not watch it. I know before seeing it that it is Hollywood slop.

But lets look at other instances

Alright so looking at “all reviews” for “It ends with us”, the audience is split between giving 5 stars and 3 stars. The reviews aren’t reflecting what I see, but maybe if I scroll down more they are all 5 stars.

Godzilla vs. Kong is easy CGI.

Super Mario Bros. Movie is full of pricey voice actors and an expensive marketing and
CGI budget.

Reagan seems politically charged. My guess is critics view it as boring or it has a bad plot and the “politically charged” audience reviewers like it.

These will be recurring themes, so lets rapid fire them:

  • Transformers: CGI
  • Am I Racist: Politics
  • Midway: CGI
  • Sound of Freedom: Politics
  • Harold and the Purple Crayon: Audience did the opposite of review bombed it, it was that bad. It was like Morbius.
  • Where the Crawdads Sing: I actually don’t know.
  • Bob Marley, Once Love: Politics?
  • Uncharted: Tom Holland, CGI, marketing.
  • Clifford: Grandmas love it?

While I left out a bunch of movies, I will not be seeing any of these movies because it all doesn’t matter to me. I trust critics a lot more than I trust the bias that one can leave when making an account takes less than a minute. This doesn’t mean I am saying all of these movies are bad, I am sure if you want a big budget movie with a cast you know and absolutely no heart in soul put into a film, you know where to go.
